Sewa Singh Bhamra
Last night, my wonderful grandfather took his last breath as he passed away whilst listening to Sukhmani Sahib prayers, and with his family by his bedside.
In my opinion, he was truly a remarkable man who had accomplished much more than one can even dream of in his 87 years.
Having served the British army in World War 2, he came to England to give his 8 children an amazing opportunity to be raised in London.
He was an amazing man with strong morals. He taught me the importance of working hard, and earning an honest living. He taught me the importance of family.
One of the most frequent questions I get asked about Singh Street Style is “Who is your biggest style inspiration?”. By far the answer is my Grandfather. He would always be seen wearing suits, shirts and ties.
I think one of the earliest memories of myself taking up an interest in style was when I first borrowed my grandfather’s white shoes that would match my outfit.
One of the best compliments I receive is when people tell me I dress like my grandfather and that I get my sense of style from him.
Personally, I feel that my grandfather had an amazing life, he shared his whole life with his family even up until his last breath, he gave us so much that it would be impossible for me to even express how much he has done for our family.
To me he is a role model and a hero.
If I ever become even half the man he was, or accomplished even half of what he has, I would consider myself a very successful and lucky man.
Rest in peace Nanna Ji, give Nanni Ji my love x
